Indoor Environmental Quality

The indoor spaces of our homes, offices, and businesses can have an effect on our health.  Environmental problems, ranging from asbestos to mold and pests, can be present in these spaces and cause or aggravate a variety of health problems.

However, with the correct understanding of indoor environmental issues, New York City residents, home inspectors, and health care professionals can be better equipped to address these issues and create safer, healthier homes and spaces.

New York City Department of Health staff learn to recognize areas in a house that are vulnerable to ventilation problems.
