Urban Ecology
The millions of people who walk the streets of New York City every day aren’t the only ones who live in this city. Wildlife, insects, bacteria, fungi and plants also call New York City their home. Biodiversity is fundamental to the functioning of all ecosystems, but is being threatened by habitat destruction and species extinction. This biodiversity of life helps beautify the city, manage pest populations, creates places for recreation, and improves the quality of our air and water. The more we learn about the biodiversity around us and how they make New York City a healthier and more resilient place to live, the more we can help protect them and the services they provide.

************

Below are some Urban Environment programs that connect New York City residents with the biodiversity around them.
